Off-season: Recruit Night with ONU Men's Soccer

After being eliminated in the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, the ONU Men's Soccer Team's season has officially come to a close. The Polar Bears off-season started with much needed time away from school and soccer as everyone went home for Thanksgiving Break. Over the off-season, the team does many things to stay active and involved with the program such as Futsal, team lifts, and many other team activities. In this blog, I'll be talking about a special event that the team does every year once the season is finished, which is Recruit Night.

Recruit Night involves many activities for soccer recruits to interact with current players and get a better feel for life on campus with athletics and academics. The first thing the team did with the recruits is played some pick-up soccer. This gives them a chance to play with some of their potential future teammates and get a feel for what the college playing level is like. After playing, there was a dinner and a Q&A session that followed about an hour later. This allows for the recruits to get more personal with some of the current players and find out more specifics about life at school. Lastly, the recruits had the opportunity to stay overnight with some of the current players and attend classes with them the next day. This is a very cool opportunity for them to get a real taste of college classes.

This event is great way for the current team to connect with some recruits and hopefully convince them to make their final decision to attend ONU.

  1. I can remember my experience through this night as the recruit, that just shows how fast time actually is. I am glad you were still able to be where your feet were and enjoy the moment and opportunity to play with your friends and new teammates.

  2. I too remember my overnight recruiting visit, and it is a great way to show a high school athlete what the next level really looks like. Hope you were able to be a great host and help your team!

  3. The overnight visit was my only trip to campus as a recruit, and it was really great. I remember playing foosball in Lima with everyone and it really showed me what the team was really like. Hopefully you guys keep that going in the future and show recruits that ONU soccer is a great team to be a part of!
